Beyond the Laundry Mountain: How Fitness Became My Sanity Saver

Writer: thethickchixxthethickchixx

Alright, listen up, fellow warriors of laundry mountains and forgotten appointments!

It's your girl, the one who considers sleeping past 6:30 AM a cardinal sin, and I'm here to talk about fitness. Or, as I like to call it, "my glorious 'me time' between decoding teenager TikToks and making sure everyone has clean underwear."

Look, I'm a mom of a teenager. I'm overworked. I'm perpetually stressed. And my body? Well, let's just say it's got the battle scars of motherhood, and I live on coffee and trap music, both needed to get me through the daily grind."I'm a seasoned veteran of crappy days, chaos, and everything in between.

But here's the thing: I've discovered something. Fitness isn't about fitting into those skinny jeans (which, l hear may be making a comeback). It's about finding joy in movement. It's about remembering that my body, despite its many protests, is actually capable of amazing things. It's my "me time" and I value it.

I used to dread the gym. Now? I crank up some 90s pop (yes, I still love it), do a few squats that probably look like a baby giraffe learning to walk, and I feel… dare I say… energized? I'm not training for a triathlon. I'm training for "not collapsing when I have to carry all the groceries in one trip, while simultaneously mediating a teen drama."

And the best part? I've stopped hating my reflection. Okay, maybe not entirely. But I've started to appreciate the strength, the resilience, the sheer audacity of this body that's carried me through so much. It's not perfect, but it's mine, and it's getting stronger every day. And that, my friends, is something to celebrate.

So, if you're someone who cherishes her "me time" and is struggling to find joy amidst the chaos, here are two things that have been transformational for me:

  1. Schedule your "me time" movement like a non-negotiable appointment: Seriously, put it in your calendar. Treat it like a vital meeting with yourself. Even if it's just 15 minutes, try our 15-minute workout on YouTube, and make it happen. Protect that time like you protect your last cup of coffee. It’s your sanity saver.

  2. Focus on what your body can do, not what it looks like: Ditch the comparison game. Celebrate the small victories. Did you lift a little heavier? Did you hold that plank a few seconds longer? Did you manage to do a workout while your teen was explaining a complex TikTok trend? Really can someone tell me how they can remember these dances but can't remember to take out the trash? Focus on the strength, the energy, and the feeling of accomplishment.

Because let's face it, we deserve it. We're amazing. We're strong. And we're going to rock this whole "fitness journey" thing, one hilarious, slightly awkward squat and one deciphered TikTok at a time. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to practice this new dance. Don't tell the teen but I'm going to jump in her next video.
